Some people think that keeping kids away from safe sex questions will keep them away from sex itself, but this denial is actually dangerous and harmful to kids.
Young people are in a precarious position when it comes to issues of sex and it's now evidence that the youths subject to abstinence-only sex education have higher pregnancy rates, because they are not introduced to appropriate forms of contraception.
The whole idea of sex education in our schools, and how comprehensive sex education should be have always been controversial subjects, with conservative people telling youths to abstain, and by the same time putting them at risk.
Among reasons why we need comprehensive sex education in our schools, the first one is that it's easier for kids to talk about this topic in a class than with their parents. Parents themselves mostly expect that their children will find that kind of information by themselves. Then, having comprehensive sex education in schools makes dialogue between kids and their parents more likely to happen.
Also, youngsters today face sexual topics and images everywhere in their daily life, but these media do not provide accurate information that our children need, and studies have shown that when kids are given comprehensive sex education in school, the rates for teens getting pregnant or contracting diseases goes down.
Children should get some information as soon as possible because they are also having sex earlier than previous generation, and rates for teens getting and transmitting diseases are rising, so its a proof that their start having a sexual life without the minimum appropriate knowledge.
People who expect that kids will follow the rules if you just tell them not to do something are purely stupid, because kids have always enjoyed doing what is forbidden.
People who fear that providing too much information to kids on sex will encourage to be sexually active faster are also wrong, because studies have shown that programs teaching abstinence are less effective than the comprehensive sex education programs.
So in order to protect our kids from wrong or non decisions regarding sex, we need to have comprehensive sex education in schools.
